MINERAL WELLS – D’Ann Tomerlin, of Mineral Wells, is the winner of the newspaper’s naming contest. She submitted Palo Pinto Press and we knew it was the one.
“I just thought Palo Pinto Press would include the entire county,” she said. “I had four or five names and I narrowed it down to that one.”
D’Ann moved to Palo Pinto County in 1963 and graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1968. She married Jim Tomerlin, MWHS Class of ’63, and they had two sons.
Jim served on the Mineral Wells ISD School Board and was a peanut and watermelon farmer.
Following in her mother’s footsteps, D’Ann owned and operated Mineral Wells Western Wear for 10 years. She also worked as a provider contractor in the health sector.
D’Ann still lives on the Tomerlin family farm (1907) and spends her retirement enjoying her two grandchildren. She said she’s excited to see the community have its own newspaper again.
“I think it’s much needed,” she explained. “I want to know everything that’s going on in the county.”
(D’Ann, we assure you the Palo Pinto Press will deliver on that.)
Thank you to everyone who submitted suggestions for our naming contest. There were so many great entries and it was a lot of fun.
The Palo Pinto Press would also like to thank the numerous merchants who generously donated to D’Ann’s prize for winning:
